Fighting in Sudan
April 27, 2023Jesus said, "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God."
In times of conflict, Christians can bring the greatest hope for reconciliation through Jesus, the Prince of Peace. And this is such a time in the Nuba Mountains.
Fifty years of persecution by the Government of Sudan has largely destroyed agricultural land and resources. The resulting scarcity recently led to deadly conflict between tribal groups in the Heban region.
As a result, twenty-two people were killed, and the local authorities quickly sentenced 46 others to death, many who were merely in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Through a peace and reconciliation workshop led by Bishop Andudu and priests in the Diocese of Kadugli, chiefs of the warring tribes came together, slept in the same quarters, ate together, learned about Jesus' approach to conflict, and (in tears) pledged to work together to end the conflict.
Leaders in the Nuba Mountains have asked the Diocese of Kadugli to develop and conduct more of these peace-building workshops across all 13 counties in the region. All of these workshops are funded through grants from Pax Dei for Nuba.
