September 27, 2022This Month: Rebuilding Grace Secondary School

Ezekiel, headmaster of Grace Secondary School
Ezekiel was teaching at Grace Secondary School when Sudanese government troops came onto school grounds. Teachers and students scattered, and the government destroyed the school by force. Ezekiel fled to South Sudan.
Four years later, Ezekiel got a call: Would he come back to Nuba and help rebuild Grace School as its headmaster? He said yes.
“We want to see the dream come true,” he says. "All this time we have dreamed about Grace School as a full secondary school, a school raising a generation with Christian values that will be able to establish a Christian community that will help solve the problems in the mountains. Even in political issues, they can present a Christian perspective and carry the message of God.” For some students, Grace Secondary School is a safe place to hear the Gospel for the first time.
With a $58,700 grant from Pax Dei for Nuba in 2022, Grace Secondary School can now pay its 25 person staff year-round, and is expanding to serve more students. With a stable teacher core in place, other donors have committed to build permanent facilities for the school.
“The war has not ended, but we still have that heart of helping our people,” says Ezekiel. In 2023, the school will present its first graduating class to take the South Sudanese national exam. “That will be our first taste, first fruit from Grace Secondary School.”
Pax Dei for Nuba is committed to supporting Grace Secondary School in 2023.
